Have something to say?
Hi, there!
Welcome to Homemade with Yum, a blog that has been a long time coming. I’m Muzna, a wife, a busy mum of a rambunctious toddler, freelancer, content writer, and food blogger with a passion for sharing my food adventures with everyone else.
How it all began…
I began experimenting in the kitchen when I was 13 or 14 years old. I remember stopping at supermarkets on the way home from school so I could buy some butter or sugar and saving up to buy ingredients so I could bake my little heart out in the evenings or on the weekend. Towards the end of school, all my teachers and friends had been treated several times to cupcakes, cakes, and brownies.
Baking is what got it all started. I would spend countless hours searching Google or watching videos on YouTube for any number of recipes, techniques, troubleshooting, etc. I ran a small home-based dessert business for a couple of years too!
And then, in 2018, I started my YouTube channel. Shortly after, I was forced into a hiatus for personal reasons. That hiatus ended up lasting for more than a year and a half! Finally, in mid-2019, I restarted my food blogging journey – this time on Instagram. This blog has been a long time coming. Out of all my food adventures, this might be the one that suits me best as I am a writer by profession.
What kind of recipes will you see here?
I love food, pure and simple. I love trying different cuisines and techniques from around the world. Most of all, I love the food of my home. My home is Sri Lanka and India, equally, and this is reflected in what I love to cook.
As for the actual recipes, I will always try to give as much information as possible so that you have the best chance of making them perfectly. The step-by-step guide is something that should help make the process easier. I write everything with the perspective of the reader in mind because I am a reader of food blogs myself.
Most of my recipes will also have substitutions and variations you can make. Some ingredients will have a range in the measurement. Some processes will have notes on how you could something else instead. This is because I want to encourage you to own your food. Use your natural instinct and your unique palette to recreate my recipes in a way that is perfect for YOU.
