These skewers look pretty impressive, and they taste just as good.

I love all things sticky and chickeny, as is evident by my Baked Sticky Chicken Wings Recipe (adoringly nicknamed the ssss wings), and this recipe is no different.

The two recipes share a lot in common, but they are also very different. For one, here I use boneless chicken and skewer them kabab-style. They are also pan-fried, instead of being baked, and the marinade is a lot different too.

The honey provides a wonderful subtle sweetness that pairs so well with the spiciness that comes from the chili, saltiness from the soy, and the wonderful umami from the garlic. I love the flavour resulting from this wonderful marriage of ingredients, and I’m sure you will too!

Look at that glistening chicken skewers!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE Honey Garlic Chicken?
  • 3 tbsp tomato sauce,
  • 1 tbsp honey,
  • 1 tbsp chilli powder,
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce,
  • 1 tsp ginger/garlic paste (or some minced ginger and garlic),
  • 1/4 tsp dried garlic flakes or powder,
  • Salt,
  • Pepper,
  • Roughly 250g boneless chicken, cut into cubes,
  • Oil, for frying
What is the Process TO MAKE Honey Garlic Chicken?

This recipe is super easy. Here’s how you can make my honey garlic chicken skewers:

  1. Make the marinade and seperate 1/4th of it to be used later.
  2. Cut the chicken into cubes and make shallow slashes all across each cube. This helps the marinade really penetrate the chicken and ensure the insides are flavourful as well. Be careful not to cut too deep.
  3. Marinade chicken for 1-2 hours and skewer them.
  4. Pan fry the skewers, adding the reserved marinade at the end.
  5. Garnish and serve!

What to Serve with Honey Garlic Chicken?

I’ve paired these honey garlic chicken skewers with my Mushroom Garlic Rice, but they can be a great accompaniment orstarter to any meal. You can serve it with some fried rice or even plain rice and a fresh salad. You could even put the chicken into a wrap with some Garlic Mayo Sauce and a crunchy slaw – that would be sooo good!

Here’s the step-by-step guide to making honey garlic chicken skewers.

Honey Garlic Chicken Skewers

Prep Time: 15 min

Cook Time: 10 min

Serves: 2-4

Step 1: Marinade chicken.

  • 3 tbsp tomato sauce,
  • 1 tbsp honey,
  • 1 tbsp chilli powder,
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce,
  • 1 tsp ginger/garlic paste (or some minced ginger and garlic),
  • 1/4 tsp dried garlic flakes or powder,
  • Salt,
  • Pepper,
  • Roughly 250g boneless chicken,
  1. Mix all the ingredients together except the chicken, seperate about 1/4 of the mixture, and set aside.
  2. Prepare the chicken by cutting it into cubes and making slashes on all sides of each cube with a knife.
  3. Mix chicken through the rest of the marinade and leave to marinate for 1-2 hours.

Step 2: Skewer chicken.

  1. Slide chicken onto skewers, placing them close together but not squished.

Step 3: Cook the chicken.

  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  1. Heat the oil in a nonstick pan (use a grill pan if you have one) on a high heat until it starts smoking.
  2. Place the skewers onto the smoking hot oil (careful!) and let them cook on each side for about 2-3 minutes or until well caremelize.
  3. Towards the end of cooking, pour in the reserved marinade and cook for about 20-30 seconds.
  4. Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions and serve with a wedge of lime.

Notes

– If you do not have dried garlic, use a little bit more fresh garlic in the marinade.
