A crunchy snack that comes together in no time - a must-try for seafood lovers!

We’ve all heard of and love chicken popcorn, but have you ever tried fish popcorn? It’s just as easy to make and just as delicious! Would you believe it only takes 4 ingredients and comes together in half an hour or so?

Where are my seafood lovers at? While I love chicken popcorn as much as the next person, sometimes, a girl needs some variety in her life!

These fish popcorn are the perfect evening snack, not only because you don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen. They fry up super quick, so you won’t have to stand over a hot stove for too long.

Dip these into your choice of condiment. My favorite thing to serve it with is my garlic mayo dipping sauce, which also comes together in about 5 minutes. Or just pick up a bottle of ketchup or sweet chili sauce – it’s entirely up to you.

What are the 4 ingredients needed to make Fish Popcorn?
  • 250g boneless white fish, cut into bite-sized cubes,
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour,
  • 1 large egg, beaten,
  • 1-2 cups breadcrumbs,

You can use any fish that you like to fry – just make sure that it is boneless. You will also need salt and pepper to season each of these 4 ingredients individually.

Panko breadrcumbs can be substituted with regular breadcrumbs as well, or even anything like crushed cornflakes or potato chips.

How to make Fish Popcorn at home?

Making these fish popcorns is as easy as A, B, and C. Once you’ve got them chopped into bite-sized cubes, all you have to do is put them through the breading process in this order: flour, egg, breadcrumbs. Once they’re all crumbed, all you have to do is fry them up until they’re golden brown and crispy!

To prevent the fish from drying out, which is very possible since we cut them so small and fish cooks fast, I recommended frying only 3-4 pieces at a time at high heat.

Here’s the step-by-step guide to making fish popcorn at home:

Fish Popcorn

Prep Time: 20 min

Cook Time: 10 min

Serves: 3-4

Step 1: Prepare the fish.

  • 250g boneless white fish,
  1. Wash and pat the fish dry.
Note: you can use some turmeric in the water to get rid of the fishy smell.
  2. Cut it into bite-sized cubes. Make sure they’re the same size so they cook at the same time.

Step 2: Crumb the fish.

  • 250g boneless white fish, cut into bite-sized cubes,
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour,
  • 1 large egg, beaten,
  • 1-2 cups breadcrumbs,
  1. Place all four ingredients in separate bowls and season them with salt and pepper individually.
  2. Dip each cube of fish into the flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.

Step 3: Fry the fish popcorn.

  • Oil, for frying
  1. Heat oil on a high flame and fry in small batches of 4-5.
Note: Cook them within 1-2 minutes or they will become dry and chewy.
  2. Serve while warm with your dipping sauce of choice.

– I used Panko breadcrumbs, but regular breadcrumbs will work just fine.
